Chemical Disinfection of Glassware

Glassware and any other non-disposable item that comes into contact with biohazardous material (anything living) must be chemically disinfected. Disposables can be placed directly into the biohazardous waste container.

  1. Add a 10% bleach or 70% ethanol (isopropanol is also acceptable) solution to the glassware or surface.
  2. Let soak for 20 minutes.
  3. Pour disinfectant down the drain and rinse well with water.
  4. Clean with soap and water.
